THE CHATWAL HOTEL, NYC.
Settled in a timeless and architecturally beautiful building, The Chatwal hotel exudes style from the moment you enter. It's one of my favorite places to stay in NYC, or even just to pop into for a drink. Architect Thierry Despont has restored the beautiful classic building in Midtown, mimicking the internal décor, to reflect the glamour and allure of Old New York. It's impossible to step foot in this hotel and not immediately be transported to another time.
'Elegance and refinement abound in this little gem of a hotel. The décor boasts wall-to-ceiling lights, red leather chairs and polished floors. Linear, Art Deco desks and countertops are softened by beautiful white roses and low lighting. Touches from Asprey, London’s leading luxury boutique since 1781, pepper the rooms and furnishings of the hotel, reflecting the rare Asprey store on the ground level. It reminds me of days spent perusing London store windows as a kid and it's so overwhelmingly comforting.
With a modern twist on classic Art Deco design, The Chatwal’s decor immediately takes you back to the 1930s. Sip on a dirty gin martini while reclining on red, leather sofas and immediately feel like a glamorous star of the silver screen. The Chatwal houses the infamous Lambs Club Bar and Restaurant. Open since 1905, The Lambs Club has been a staple in the theatre district for members such as Charlie Chaplin, Spencer Tracy and Fred Astaire. Now restored to its former glory, The Lambs Club provides incredible cocktails, modern American cuisine, and a swanky, old-school ambiance that is inherited, not fabricated.
Just steps away from Times Square and Broadway, nestled between fantastic shopping areas like Madison and Fifth Avenue, The Chatwal is a hidden treasure combining the vibrancy of modern New York with the sophistication of the 1930s.
